Bayer Leverkusen was founded in July of 1904, and is one of the oldest team in Germany, with over 104 years of age.  Bayer Leverkusen is a regular atop the German Bundesliga, but has yet to win a National Championship.  The team came very close in the 2000 and 2002 seasons, when they finished second, and on both occasions seemed to have the Championship won.

Internationally Bayer Leverkusen won a UEFA Championship in 1998, beating Espanyol.  In 2002 Bayer Leverkusen also lost a UEFA Champions League final to Real Madrid.  This final was the first time a team reached the Champions League final without actually winning the Championship in their home country.
